Amman 2018

 

"Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanise." Chimamanda Adichie


On 31 October - 4 November, we had a workshop that brought together creative industry members from Sweden, Egypt and Jordan on the role of the creative sector in raising awareness about gender inequality, inclusion through arts and new media. We filmed 13 stories about gaps in our daily lives.


The workshop programme included interactive workshops:

  • Mapping and Reality Check on gender (in)equality (Emad Karim, UN Women)
  • Communicating Impact (Chaymaa Ramzi, Agora for Arts & Culture and Emad Karim, UN Women)
  • Half the World - working in complex environments (Reem Kassem, Agora for Arts & Culture).
  • Civil Courage: Performative & Instrumental Actions (Sara Rajabi & Niki Chalusi, Everyday Civil Courage)
  • Storytelling for more gender equal socities (Rabeea Al Nasser, House of Tales & Music)


and, field visits to Jadal, Tajalla, Fann w Chai, Al Balad Theatre in Amman.


In collaboration with Womanity Foundation, we hosted a public screening of B 100 Ragel show and talk on how we can leverage new media and storytelling as tools for gender equality in the MENA region. The event was hosted by Jadal for Knowledge and Culture on Thursday, 1 November 2018 from 18:30-21:30. Read more.


Participants: from Jordan (Aya Nabulsi, Enas Obedallah, Linda Khoury); from Egypt (Emad Karim, Ahmed Hassan, Noha Kawanna, and Omar El-Moataz Bellah); from Sweden (Niki Chalusi, Sara Rajabi, Anni-Frid Frisk, Karin Tennemar).

This edition is a creative collaboration led by the National Museums of World Culture (Sweden) together with House of Tales and Music (Jordan) and Agora for Arts and Culture (Egypt) with the support of the Swedish Institute Creative Force programme and the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
